So many ways to get involved

We’ve got a brilliant programme of events this year, from helping to uncover Slough’s Hidden Nature to volunteering your time for our Citizen Science Programme.

We need as many residents as possible to learn about the effects of climate change and the many ways in which we can work with nature and water to help make a difference in our neighbourhood.

Take a look at the options below – there will be something for everyone- and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Neighbourhood Resilience FORUM

Tuesday 9th December, 6:15 – 8:45pm
A friendly community event about the future of Godolphin Recreation Ground.

The park is a much-loved space to walk, play, meet friends, enjoy nature, or simply pause on a busy day. We know how much it matters to local people.

Over the coming months, the Project Sponge team will improve the stream and green space—making it better for wildlife and the community, while helping manage flooding.

But its future depends on you.

Join us at the Neighbourhood Resilience Forum and help shape what this special place should look like.

Water Rangers - Water Quality Session of the Salt Hill Stream

Come and help us explore the health of Salt Hill Steam, as part pf Citizen’s Science River Monitoring & Research initiative.

Using easy-to-use Water Rangers test kits, we’ll check the water quality of our local stream and then upload the results to a global citizen science database.

No experience needed – just bring your curiosity and be ready to get hands-on by the water.

Citizen Science

We’re starting a new citizen science programme – and you’re invited to be part of it from the very beginning!

Alongside local volunteers, we’ll be collecting data to help track the impact of our work across Baylis and Godolphin Parks and beyond.

  • Through the SmartRivers project, we’ll monitor freshwater invertebrate communities to understand how they respond to changes in the landscape – giving us early insights into the health of our streams as restoration efforts progress.
  • By tracking soil moisture, we’ll learn whether interventions like wetland creation and tree planting are making the parks more resilient to flooding in winter and drought in summer.
  • Regular water quality testing will help us monitor the overall health of the river, track any pollution events, and ensure the changes we’re making are supporting cleaner, healthier waterways.

Our social feed

Last night’s Neighbourhood Resilience Forum brought curiosity, creativity, and a whole lot of community spirit. 💚

Residents arrived not quite knowing what to expect and left excited, informed, and ready to get involved.

Together, we explored the future of Godolphin Recreation... Ground and the restoration of Salt Hill Stream - due to start early 2026.

The Project Sponge team shared the proposed design changes that will make the park safer during heavy rain, including re-wiggling the stream, widening sections, and creating small landscape features to help slow water and reduce flood risk to nearby homes and roads.

Residents then took part in a hands-on activity, answering four key questions about the park’s future — from how they want the park to look and feel from next year, to what would make the area more welcoming for everyone.

The energy in the room was incredible.
Everyone contributed, everyone shared, and everyone showed how much they care about this space. Many attendees were eager to stay involved through volunteering and upcoming opportunities.

And yes… the complimentary Project Sponge umbrellas were a hit. ☂️💧

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us - and those that missed out - join us for a follow up drop in workshop on 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 at Manor Park Community Centre.

Your ideas and experiences will help shape a resilient, nature-rich park for the whole community.
